Post Description :  On February 28th 2024, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani launched the logo and website for the Alliance for Global Good – Gender Equity and Equality. The alliance marks India’s leadership in spearheading global action for women empowerment under its G20 presidency.

The genesis of the alliance can be traced back to the G20 Leaders’ Declaration at the recent summit hosted by India. It embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of fostering international partnerships and investments for gender equality in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Launch Event Dignitaries

Key dignitaries at the launch event included Mr. Bill Gates, co-chairman of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The alliance aims to unite governments, industry stakeholders, philanthropic organizations, and multilateral bodies to expedite progress in enhancing women’s health, education, and livelihoods.

It concentrates on knowledge dissemination, fostering collaborations, and directing resources toward evidence-based interventions that empower women and girls globally. Through concerted efforts spanning various sectors, the initiative endeavors to augment female workforce participation and entrepreneurship.

The CII plays a pivotal role in anchoring the alliance, leveraging its Center for Women Leadership. Additionally, other key partners include the World Economic Forum, contributing as a network collaborator, and Invest India, participating as an institutional partner.
