NEET Result 2024: Tie-breaking Protocol
Three distinct policies were previously implemented in accordance with the NTA rules and regulations. These policies are outlined below:
Policy Statement 1: Candidates with higher scores in the NEET Biology section receive priority over others. For example, if we consider the following data:
Candidate | Marks Obtained in NEET Biology |
---|---|
A | 265 |
B | 300 |
C | 245 |
As per the first policy, Candidate B will be ranked above Candidate A and C. Additionally, Candidate A will be ranked higher than Candidate C due to their respective Biology scores. This policy prioritizes candidates with the highest marks in the Biology section. However, if all candidates have the same Biology score, Policy Statement 2 comes into play.
Policy Statement 2: Candidates with higher scores in Chemistry are ranked higher. For example, let’s consider Candidates A, B, and C with the following data:
Candidate | Marks Obtained in NEET Biology | Marks Obtained in NEET Chemistry |
---|---|---|
A | 300 | 135 |
B | 300 | 156 |
C | 296 | 160 |
In this case, Candidate B is given preference over Candidate A and C, as Candidate B has the highest scores based on both Policy Statement 1 and Policy Statement 2. Candidate C is not ranked higher than Candidate B despite scoring more in Chemistry due to lower marks in Biology as per the second policy. However, for this policy to be implemented, all candidates must have the same Biology score. If candidates have the same scores in both Biology and Chemistry, Policy Statement 3 is applied.
Policy Statement 3: Candidates with the fewest incorrect answers in all subjects, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, are selected. For example, consider Candidates A, B, and C again:
Candidate | No. of Incorrect Answers |
---|---|
A | 25 |
B | 40 |
C | 20 |
NEET tie-breaker rules initially consider Biology and Chemistry scores to determine candidate rankings. In cases where a tie still exists, the number of incorrect answers is taken into account to further differentiate between candidates. If a tie persists after considering scores and incorrect answers, the NEET 2024 tie-breaker rules are applied. These rules ensure a fair and transparent mechanism for resolving ties, maintaining an unbiased and accurate ranking process based on candidates’ performance in the NEET exam.
NEET Merit List 2024
In addition to conducting the entrance test, the NTA is also tasked with compiling the NEET UG 2024 merit list for candidates who have chosen the 15% All India Quota. The merit list for counseling will be formulated based on the NEET 2024 results. The roster of qualifying candidates will be forwarded to the Directorate General of Health Services for seat allocation within the 15% AIQ. The NEET 2024 merit list will be organized by categories as specified during the counseling application process. It will include information such as merit ranking, scores, roll numbers, and percentiles.
The NTA will share the merit lists with both central and state counseling authorities, which will be utilized for admission purposes. Subsequently, the respective counseling authorities will release additional merit lists, indicating the NEET state ranks for 2024 in accordance with their specific protocols. These state counseling authorities will prepare merit lists for candidates who are residents of the respective state.
