WB Police Constable Language Requirements
The applicant must be able to communicate in Bengali, both verbally and in writing.
This rule, however, would not apply to people who are permanent residents of Darjeeling and Kalimpong Districts’ hill subdivisions.
WB Police Constable Selection Process 2023
The selection process of the West Bengal Police constable is conducted in four stages. Below are the stages of the selection process in detail.
Stage 1: Preliminary Written Test
This is a qualifying examination and its marks are not considered in the final merit list. A preliminary test is of 100 marks which includes 3 subjects i.e. General Awareness and General Knowledge, Reasoning, and Elementary Mathematics.
Stage 2: PMT (Physical Measurement Test)
Candidates who qualify for the first stage are eligible to appear for PMT. The candidates will be assessed for Physical Parameters like height, weight, chest expansion, as mentioned under the eligibility requirements.
Stage 3: PET (Physical Efficiency Test)
Candidates who qualify for the PMT can take part in PET. This test consists of a 1600 meter run within 6 minutes and 30 seconds.
Stage 4: Final Written Exam
The final written test is of 85 marks which includes 4 subjects i.e. General Awareness and General knowledge, Reasoning, English, and Elementary Mathematics. These exam marks will be taken into consideration to prepare a merit list.
Stage 5: Interview
The interview will be of 15 marks and those candidates who have qualified for the Final written test only those candidates will be called for this interview round. Suitability of candidates for public and general awareness will be asked. The West Bengal Police recruitment board will prepare a merit list of candidates based on the marks scored in the interview and final exam.
Stage 6: Verification of character antecedents
Selected candidates have to fill the verification of character antecedents which will be further enquired by the authority. All provisionally selected candidates will be required to fill up a ‘Verification Roll’ which will be thoroughly enquired into by the authority concerned. The antecedent verification is about confirming, whether the provided details like address, date of birth, etc. actually belong to the candidate or not. The verification of criminal records, if any, is also done at this stage.
Stage 7: Medical Examination
All the selected candidates will be sent to the designated state government hospital for medical examination. Candidates should be in good physical and mental health. Candidates have to undergo a few medical tests prescribed by the Department of Health and family welfare. A medical fitness certificate will be issued by the medical officer of the authority.
WB Police Constable 2023 Exam Pattern
The WB Police recruitment board set a preliminary written test of 100 questions based on multiple choices to select eligible candidates for the next round.
- The question paper is set in two languages i.e. Bengali and Nepali.
- There will be a negative marking of 1/4th of marks for each wrong answer.
- Time duration of the exam is 1 hour.
- This stage is only qualifying in nature.
