Is CMAT very tough?
CMAT is a moderate level exam. Compared to CAT and XAT, it is easier, especially the Quant and VARC sections. The questions in CMAT are neither very lengthy nor calculation-intensive. The Innovation and Entrepreneurship section is unique to CMAT and can be challenging for some aspirants.
Is 4 months enough for CMAT?
4 months is enough to prepare for CMAT. You can easily prepare well for CMAT in 4 months provided you study for 4-6 hours daily. For the first 2 months, you should focus on the syllabus completion. The next month should be devoted to practicing questions from reference books and previous year papers. The last month should be well planned to revise the topics as per last 2 years’ weightage, take 3-4 mock tests every week, and solve sample papers.
CMAT 2024 Admit Card
CMAT 2024 admit card is available online before exam. You are required to login to download the admit card and then take a printout to carry to the test center. Along with the admit card, you need to carry a passport-size photograph and a valid photo ID proof in original on the exam day.
Make sure you check the personal details, application & roll number, photo, exam date and time mentioned in the admit card. In case of any discrepancy, immediately contact the NTA helpline at 011-69227700/ 40759000 or via email at cmat@nta.ac.in.
CMAT admit card also mentions the exam day instructions to be followed at the test center. For example, carrying electronic gadgets, stationery and jewelry is strictly prohibited inside the exam center. Make sure you read all the instructions before the exam day.
CMAT 2024 Paper Pattern and Syllabus
CMAT paper pattern provides for 100 questions divided equally into 5 sections– Quant & DI, VARC, Logical Reasoning, GK, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship. There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer and 4 marks are awarded for a correct answer. Check latest CMAT exam pattern
The difficulty level of questions in CMAT is easy to moderate. Students find the Quant and Innovation & Entrepreneurship sections to be more challenging. If we compare it with other MBA exams like CAT and XAT, CMAT is way easier.
Innovation and Entrepreneurship is unique to the CMAT exam and tests the knowledge of basic concepts and developments in the field of entrepreneurship, startups and innovations in business. Some of the important topics include budget & economic survey, new schemes & policies, static fact based questions on famous personalities and ventures, and banking innovations.
CMAT syllabus for Quantitative Aptitude is vast covering major topics of algebra, arithmetic, geometry, number theory, permutation-combination, and probability. Out of the 20 questions, expect around 7-8 from arithmetic, 2-3 from numbers, and 1-2 each from algebra & geometry. At least 5 questions (1 set) will be from data interpretation.
CMAT previous year question paper is the best source to gather insights on the type and difficulty level of questions asked by the NTA. Especially, during the last few weeks before the examination, you should try to attempt CMAT previous year papers of at least the last 5 years. Apart from these, you must also attempt previous year papers of similar MBA exams like CAT, XAT, NMAT, MAT, etc. These are essential to ascertain the competitive level of your preparation for CMAT.

CMAT 2024 Result and Merit List
CMAT 2024 result date is the last week of May 2024. CMAT result is released as a scorecard comprising the overall score, sectional scores, and the AIR of the candidate. CMAT Results are made available in the candidate login only on the official website of the NTA- exams.nta.ac.in/CMAT.

CMAT 2024 Cut off and Admission Process
CMAT Cut off is not released by the NTA. Every college announces individual CMAT cut off for MBA. Similarly, there is no common admission process conducted for admission through CMAT scores. CMAT selection process is conducted separately by each university/ college after the exam result declaration. Generally, the selection process includes GD, PI, WAT rounds followed by preparation of the final shortlist based on CMAT scores, GD-PI scores, and past academic scores.
If we look at the previous year trends, then the CMAT cut off for Sydenham Institute and JBIMS is 99+ percentile. For GIM Goa, Great Lakes and BIMTECH, 95+ percentile is the expected cut off range. Why are CMAT Exam Registrations Dropping?
The number of students registering for the CMAT exam has significantly decreased in recent years, unlike CAT and XAT exams which have seen a rise. Below is the analysis about the reasons behind CMAT’s declining popularity.
Key Reasons for the drop in CMAT Registrations
Uncertain Exam Dates: The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts CMAT, has a history of delaying the exam and not announcing the dates well in advance. This creates confusion and disrupts students’ preparation plans. In 2023 and 2021, NTA caused similar anxiety among applicants by announcing the exam date at the last minute.
Lack of Transparency Compared to Other Exams: Unlike CAT and XAT which announce exam dates along with the notification, NTA withholds this information for CMAT. This puts CMAT at a disadvantage as students prefer exams with a clear schedule.
Impact on Students’ Strategy: The delay in CMAT disrupts students’ preparation as they are unsure about the exam date and cannot plan their admissions process effectively. This uncertainty makes it difficult for them to explore MBA/PGDM options for the upcoming academic year.
Top B-Schools Not Accepting CMAT Scores: Many prestigious PGDM colleges that consider CMAT scores have deadlines for their admissions process in March/April, with sessions starting in June/July. The delay in the CMAT exam creates a conflict for these institutes, as they cannot wait indefinitely for the results but also need to accept CMAT scores. This disrupts their admissions process and academic calendar.
NTA’s Confusing Practices: Frequent changes to the CMAT format and inconsistencies between the official website and notifications add to the confusion for students and institutions. This lack of clarity discourages students from applying and makes it difficult for B-schools to manage admissions.
CMAT 2024 Registration and Eligibility
CMAT 2024 registration process is online. No offline registration facility is available for CMAT exam. CMAT 2024 application window is kept open for 21 days. There is no age limit and minimum marks in graduation criteria to apply for CMAT. Check CMAT eligibility criteria 2024
You will be required to upload the photo and signature images during registration, so make sure you keep them ready beforehand. The maximum file size is 200 kb for the photo and 30 kb for the signature.
CMAT application form is accepted only after the completion of fee payment. No revision has been made in the fees. Gen category students have to pay INR 2000 while others have to pay INR 1000.
