What’s New in GATE 2024?
The official GATE 2024 Brochure has been released on 30th August 2023. This year, the GATE Exam will be conducted by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc). Let’s check out the latest GATE 2024 news and updates below.
- The GATE 2024 application fees have been increased to Rs. 1800 from previous fee of Rs. 1700 as well as extended period fee is increased to Rs. 2300 which was Rs. 2200 earlier.
- Data Science & Artificial Intelligence is a new paper introduced to the GATE 2024 Exam. As a result, instead of 29 papers, a total of 30 GATE exam papers will be administered.
- Computer Science and Information Technology (CS) and Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DA) are the two new paper combinations introduced in GATE 2024.
- The Exam centres in international cities have been removed. There will be no exam centre outside India.
- As per the latest GATE 2024 information brochure, The GATE committee has set up new centers in Telangana such as Adilabad, Kothagudem, Medak, and Nalgonda to help students prepare for the IIT GATE 2024 exam. Previously, only Nizamabad, Suryapet Khammam, Kodad, Warangal, Karimnagar, and Hyderabad Gate Examination Centers were available within IIT Madras and IISc Zone.
- Candidates pursuing Engineering/Technology/
Architecture/Science/Humanities in their third or higher years of their UG program can now apply for the GATE Exam, according to the most recent update to the GATE 2024 Brochure.
GATE 2024 Highlights
The Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering or the GATE Exam is conducted every year by one of the IITs namely IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Roorkee, IIT Madras, IIT Bangalore, or the IISc Bangalore. IISc Bangalore will be organising the GATE 2024 Exam.
- A candidate is allowed to appear for one or a maximum of two subject papers only. Two Paper combinations have to be chosen from the given list of combinations of papers. The final allotment of two papers will still be subject to the availability of infrastructure and dates.
- The GATE 2024 Exam will be conducted in a Computer Based Test (CBT) format with centres in 200 cities/towns across India.

Negative Marking | For a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ, there will be a negative marking. For 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark MCQ, a 2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. There is no negative marking for wrong answer(s) to MSQ and NAT questions. |
GATE Paper Codes
Now while filling GATE form, candidates can apply for two subject papers from the prescribed set of combinations out of the 29 papers listed in the table given below. Candidates are expected to appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of their qualifying degree. However, candidates are free to choose any paper according to their admission plan, keeping in mind the eligibility criteria of the institutions in which they wish to seek admission.

GATE 2024 Eligibility
Anyone who has successfully completed 10+2+2 or 10+3+1 and currently studying in 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program OR has already graduated in any government approved degree program in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts is eligible to apply for GATE.
